Real Poll Herefords

The herd was started in 1991 after 35 years of egg production, pig breeding and fattening and calf calf rearing.

We have purchased 18 different female lines and culled ruthlessly to leave 5.

Jenny - The most prolific female line.

The original Butts cow was purchased with a Dynasty calf at foot (J21). The Butts cow bred until she was 17yrs.

J21 calved her last calf at 16 years. She produced a sale topping heifer and Baldric, sold for 5100 gns.

We have 6 females in the herd and have four more heifers to come.

The Jennys are good breeders and milk well.

The line goes back to Chadshunt Jenny.

Pansy – This is an excellent female line from the Ridgeway herd. We did not have many heifers and kept only one (M7) who then produced 3 good heifers which we have kept in the herd.

Amulet – We have bought this line at the Lowerhope Reduction and the cow had a Derby heifer which we have bred on. The line goes back to the Caston herd.

We have now had a a 2^nd calf heifer, by Headliner, and her two calves have topped the weights of their rear.

Dinah – Purchased at the Cheveley Dispersal and has had a lot of bulls and only now do we have a 2nd calver and a yearling heifer.

Molly – This is Dendor 1 Molly the 2^nd. Shown as a heifer by Dendor and never beaten including the Royal. Molly the 4^th bred the 2005 poll show supreme champion. We purchased the cow in 2000 with Tinker at foot.

To date had only one heifer but her 2^nd calf is a heifer so hopefully we continue this excellent female line. Her heifer is by Nationwide and growing well.

Last years bull calf is going to be a big bull who is still putting on frame. He is also by Nationwide.

We vaccinate all breeding stock annually against BVD.

All calves are vaccinated at weaning twice with Rispoval 4 and given a single dose booster the following year.
